Seagull in motion

I rarely take photos of people or animals, but today I snapped some photos of the seagulls at play, as part of a photography course I'm attending.

What surprised me about this photo and what made me post it is the way this young Yellow-legged Gull is frozen in midair, yet the sea is somewhat blurred to create appearance of a 'oil slick' over the surface.
